Description
Nidek TONOREF II 2 is NIDEK ‘s second generation instrument with 3-in-1 features, as it combines auto refractometer, keratometer, and contactless tonometer in one compact and easy-to-use instrument. Building on NIDEK’s high quality and accuracy tradition, the TONOREF 2 adopts the state-of-the-art measurement principle found in the NIDEK ARK-500 and AR-300 series.
The Tonoref II from Marco provides us with fast and accurate refractive and keratometric measurements. The tonometry measurements are extremely accurate compared to Goldmann readings on the same patient. We decided to adopt EMR in our office; we are able to upload all the data from the Tonoref II and the rest of our refraction directly into our EMR with a click of a button, where it becomes a permanent part of the exam record.

The advanced pupil imaging method for refraction measurement analyzes a larger area (ø4 mm maximum) to provide more reliable data.
The TONOREF II can measure through a pupil as small as 2mm. The Nidek Tonoref II includes an optional pupil zone imaging method that includes a wider area (max. 4mm) to obtain measurements closer to the refraction through a mesopic pupil.
TONOREF II also factors in the Pupil Zone Measuring Method, which expands the refraction measurement area from 2 mm – 4 mm Pupllary Diameter, a function of light stimulus, age, and disease, to get the most accurate measurement.
This design also uses a Super Luminescent Diode, which enables a sharper, more precise measurement ring capable of penetrating cataracts and IOLs in the objective measurement process.
The Non-Contact Tonometer component of the TonoRef II features the same Automatic Puff Control (APC) standard in the stand-alone NCTs from NIDEK. The APC reduces the noise and puff level during measurement to make the process easy for all patients.
TonoRef II also features 3D Alignment to simplify measurements for even new operators. Just aligning the head with the patient’s eye and the TonoRef II will take over: tracking the patient’s eye until optimal positioning is achieved and acquisition is triggered.
Nidek TONOREF II Features:
- 5.7-inch VGA color LCD compared to the color LCD.
- Previous generation 5-inch TFT.
- A space-saving concept that allows AR / KM and NT measurements to be performed uniquely without needing the patient to move between two instruments.
- There is automatic tracking (automatic alignment and autofocus) and auto shooting (automatic capture).
- When measuring IOP, the APC (Automatic Puff Control) function reduces acoustic noise and air intensity, thus ensuring greater patient comfort.
Tonoref II ARK non-contact tonometer, auto-refractor, and auto-keratometer combine the measurement of refractive power, corneal curvature, and intraocular pressure (IOP), providing fast, highly accurate, reliable measurements with significantly reduced measurement time.
Small Pupil Zone Measurement
The Tonoref II can measure through a pupil as small as 2mm. The Marco Tonoref II includes an optional pupil zone imaging method that includes a wider area (max. 4mm) to obtain measurements closer to the refraction through a mesopic pupil.
SLD vs. LED Technology
Super Luminescent Diode (SLD) technology offers advantages over other measurement methods by using brighter illumination to better read through media opacities, providing a more consistent measurement. The result is a more consistent and repeatable measurement, even with challenging patients.
The EyeTracking System
Autonomous X, Y, Z eye tracking. The Eyetracking System provides X, Y, and Z axes tracking for superior alignment and focusing. The Tonoref II initiates automatic measurement at the optimum measurement point.
Gentle Air
The Tonoref II has an advanced APC (automatic pressure control) – high volume-low pressure puff function, which provides a softer puff of air for accurate IOP measurements with increased patient comfort. The Tonoref II system automatically adjusts the strength of the air puff based on the first measurement of the patient’s IOP (including glaucoma suspects).
5″ Tilt Monitor
The Tonoref II features an adjustable monitor with a multi-tilt LCD. The clear 5-inch color LCD monitor can be tilted for easy operation. The monitor can still be viewed if the operator needs to stand to lift the patient’s eyelid.
